“War and Peace and the Height in Between,” Rose Marie Prins’ Exhibition Opens in Palm Harbor
The artist’s reception for an exhibition of work by Rose Marie Prins entitled “War and Peace and The Height in Between” will be held on Friday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Eckerd College’s Palm Harbor Center, 1150 County Road 1 (at Curlew Road), Florida 34683. The event will feature a reading of a poem A War Far and Near, written for Prins by American poet Timothy Houghton, whose fifth book, The Height in Between, was published in January by Orchises Press. The event is free and open to the public.
Of the nonrepresentational paintings, drawings and artist’s books in the exhibition, most of which were completed in the past two years, Prins states, “I have incorporated soil and dried plants from American Civil War areas; however, inspired by Timothy Houghton’s poem A War Far and Near, the war I evoke is not literal, but an internal battle that is part of the process of self actualization.”
Rose Marie Prins has exhibited her award-winning mixed media work throughout the United States. She has taught painting in Eckerd College’s Program for Experienced Learners and at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, for over a decade.
The exhibition opens to the public on April 4 and continues through June 2. The gallery, located next to the church, is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (call for hours on holiday weekends).
